Everywhere We Stayed on Our USA Southern States Road Trip (Nashville, Memphis, Clarksdale & New Orleans)

Nashville, TN – Hyatt House Nashville Downtown/Convention Center

For our stay in Nashville, we chose Hyatt House Nashville Downtown/Convention Center, and we’re really glad we did. It’s right in the heart of downtown, putting you within walking distance of Broadway’s live music scene, the Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame – making it super easy to explore Music City on foot.

    Broadway, Nashville

The hotel offers spacious, residential-style rooms and suites (some with full kitchens), complimentary daily breakfast, free Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, and a fitness centre – all of which were great after long days of exploring. Previous guests consistently praise the central location and comfortable beds, and there’s even a restaurant/bar/lounge on site if you want to stay in for the evening.

👉 Great all-around choice for first-timers in Nashville who want to be close to the action without sacrificing comfort.

    Memphis, TN – ARRIVE Memphis

In Memphis, we stayed at ARRIVE Memphis, a cool boutique hotel located in the South Main Arts District, one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in the city. This area is full of art galleries, historic sites like the National Civil Rights Museum, and you’re just a short walk from Beale Street and the blues clubs for which Memphis is famous.

The location really can’t be beat for exploring downtown Memphis on foot.

👉 Check out our full ARRIVE Memphis review here!

ARRIVE Memphis is set inside a converted industrial building and has a stylish, modern design that stands out from standard chain hotels. Rooms are contemporary with unique touches, and there’s an on-site café and bar (perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks). They also have valet parking available for those with cars.

👉 Perfect if you love boutique stays with character and want to be centrally located for music, history, and food.

Clarksdale, MS – Shack Up Inn

Clarksdale was one of the most memorable parts of our entire trip, and that’s thanks in part to where we stayed: the Shack Up Inn.

This isn’t your typical hotel, it’s a collection of restored sharecroppers’ cabins, each converted into a quirky, cosy room.

Staying here feels like stepping back in time while still enjoying modern comforts (most cabins have indoor bathrooms, air conditioning, and basic amenities). The property also has a chilled, blues-inspired atmosphere -fitting for the Mississippi Delta – and it’s a great base for exploring local music history (including the Crossroads and nearby juke joints).

👉 A true one-of-a-kind experience. Not luxury, but unforgettable.

    Bar, Shack Up Inn

New Orleans, LA – Virgin Hotels New Orleans

Virgin Hotels New Orleans was one of our favourite places to stay on this trip.

Located in the lively Warehouse District, the hotel is stylish, modern, and just a short walk or streetcar ride from the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and Garden District attractions. The rooftop pool and bar is an excellent place to unwind after a busy day exploring the city’s food, music, and culture.

Rooms are comfortable and well-designed (with Virgin’s signature contemporary vibe), and there are multiple dining and lounge options on site. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming – exactly what we wanted: close enough to all the action, but peaceful enough for a good night’s sleep.

👉 Fantastic choice for first-timers in New Orleans who want location, comfort, and style.

  • Everywhere We Stayed on Our California Road Trip (Honest Hotel Reviews)

Everywhere We Stayed on Our California Road Trip (Honest Hotel Reviews)

One of the most common questions we get about our West Coast road trip is:
“Where did you stay – and would you recommend it?”

So here it is…every hotel we stayed at on our California (and Nevada) road trip, with our honest thoughts on what we loved and what we didn’t.

🗺 Our California Road Trip Route

    • Stop 1: San Francisco — Hilton Union Square
    • Stop 2: Carmel-by-the-Sea — Coachman’s Inn
    • Stop 3: Pismo Beach — SeaVenture Beach Hotel
    • Stop 4: Santa Barbara — Harbor View Inn
    • Stop 5: West Hollywood — The Garland Hotel
    • Stop 6: Palm Springs — Rivera Palm Springs (formerly Margaritaville)
    • Stop 7: Las Vegas — MGM Grand

💡 Tip: This route works perfectly as a one-way road trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas. We kept most drives under 4–5 hours and stayed 1–3 nights at each stop.

San Francisco – Hilton Union Square

Our first stop on the road trip was San Francisco, where we stayed at the Hilton Union Square.

It’s in a really central and convenient location, and we found it easy to get to most things using the hotel as a base. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the hotel itself is huge.

Check out out San Fransisco blog posts to help plan your visit 3 Days in San Fransisco and 10 Things to do in San Fransisco!

We did find it very corporate – which wasn’t really the vibe of the rest of our holiday – but for a city break and a practical place to stay while exploring San Francisco, it absolutely did the job.

👉 If you’re looking for a reliable, central base in San Francisco, this is a solid option for a short city stay.

    Carmel-by-the-Sea – Coachman’s Inn

This was one of our favourite hotels of the entire trip. And honestly, that says a lot.

Like most places in Carmel, it felt like stepping straight into a fairytale. The inn itself was really special; cosy, charming, and full of character.

    Coachman’s Inn, Carmel-By-The-Sea

For ideas of how to spend your time in Carmel, check out our blog post for a 3 day guide or have a look our top 10 reccs!

The hosts were so lovely, and the daily wine and cheese hour was such a nice touch. It was close to everything we wanted or needed, and we would return in a heartbeat.

    10/10…would absolutely recommend.

👉 If you’re staying in Carmel and want something with personality (not a generic chain), this is a fantastic choice.

Pismo Beach – SeaVenture Beach Hotel

We weren’t completely taken by Pismo Beach, though it would be unfair to judge it fully. We weren’t there for very long, and the weather unfortunately wasn’t great. It was more of a passing-through situation for us.

That said, the hotel itself was very nice. Pismo Beach isn’t a big place, so there probably aren’t loads of options, and SeaVenture is a good, dependable choice.

It’s right next to the beach and within walking distance of the main centre of the area.

👉 Ideal if you’re doing a one-night coastal stop and want something easy and well-located.

Santa Barbara – Harbor View Inn

Our hotel in Santa Barbara was really conveniently located, just across from the beach.

The rooms were lovely, the pool was lovely, and they even had an on-site bike rental shop, which was really handy. (Cycling is a great way to have a look around the area!)

As well as being close to the beach, it’s within walking distance of lots of bars and restaurants. We had a lovely stay here and genuinely wish we could have stayed longer.

    Harbour View Inn, Santa Barbara

👉 If you want to stay near the beach and walk everywhere in Santa Barbara, this is a great option.

    Hollywood – The Garland Hotel

Okay…THIS was the peak for us.

We genuinely had to convince ourselves to leave the hotel and explore Hollywood because we just loved it so much.

    The Garland, Hollywood

It’s not a luxury hotel or anything, it just has a really nice feel. It has an on-site restaurant, a pool with an outdoor cinema screen, a bar, a little shop, and even a free shuttle bus to Universal Studios.

Honestly? We’d stay here again in a heartbeat and we recommend you do, too!

👉 If you’re visiting LA and want somewhere with character (and an amazing pool area), we can’t recommend this enough.

Palm Springs – Margaritaville Palm Springs

    (now Rivera Palm Springs)

The hotel we stayed at still stands, but it’s since been taken over by new owners and rebranded, so we can’t fully vouch for what it’s like now.

When we stayed, it was a large hotel with multiple restaurants, a pool, and a pool bar. It was good vibes all round and just a short drive to the bars and restaurants of Palm Springs.

👉 Worth checking recent reviews if you’re considering staying here now.

    Las Vegas – MGM Grand

All of the hotels in Las Vegas are like small villages, and the MGM Grand is no exception.

It had everything you could need… and also loads of things you definitely don’t need but are very nice to have. Like a giant casino, a Ben & Jerry’s counter, and a full food court. Yes…all inside the hotel.

    MGM Grand, Las Vegas

It’s not as fancy as some of the other hotels on the Strip (no designer shops or gondola rides), but it’s a great option if you’re looking for the classic Las Vegas experience at a cheaper price.

It’s also just a short walk up the Strip to many of Vegas’ most famous sights.

👉 A great option if you want proper Vegas vibes without the luxury price tag.

  • Best Places To Stay In Noosa – Something For Everyone!

Best Places To Stay In Noosa – Something For Everyone!

Looking for somewhere to stay in Noosa? Whether you’re after beachside luxury, a peaceful riverfront apartment, or somewhere social with a pool and good vibes, Noosa has it all. We’ve stayed in a few different places over the years and wanted to share some of our favourites to help you find your perfect Noosa base.

    Noosa Parade

Noosa Parade is a fairly long road, leading to Hastings Street and Noosa Main Beach. There are countless holiday lets, services apartments and hotels along the road and we’ve listed a couple of out favourites below.

Having said that, it’s a great location if you want to be able to walk, or get an easy bus ride, down to the beach. It’s also really near to the river as well so it’s a great location for all eventualities!

    Culgoa Point

Nestled right on the Noosa River with its own private beach access, Culgoa Point is hard to beat. It is definitely at the top end of the budget scale, but once you see the location, you’ll understand why.

Some of the privately owned apartments are a little dated when it comes to decor, but honestly, the location more than makes up for it. There’s a pool, a sauna and guests are able to hire kayaks and stand up paddle boards straight from that private beach. It’s about a 25-minute stroll to Hastings Street and Main Beach, or you can hop on a bus from the stop which is a couple of minutes walk away.

Plus, it’s only a 2-minute walk to Ricky’s (a Noosa must-visit), and there’s a handy general store and a cute riverside café close by too.

Oh, and the sunsets? Unreal. Grab a drink and head to the private beach for some of the best sunset views in Noosa. Bliss.

    Noosa Tropicana

A little further down the Parade (and a little easier on the wallet), Noosa Tropicana offers clean, spacious apartments with full kitchens. Ideal if you’re staying a bit longer or travelling with family.

The location is still fab, close to the river and Gympie Terrace, and just a short drive or longer walk to Hastings Street. There is also a pool and barbecue area for guests and a handy chalk board with details of things happening around Noosa during the week!

Top tip: Book a top-floor apartment for your own private rooftop patio and hot tub. Perfect for a sunset wine or morning coffee in your robe — live your best resort life.

Other notable mentions on Noosa Parade: Metzo Noosa Resort

    Hastings Street

If you want be right in the middle of all the action, with super easy access to the shops, bars, restaurants, the beach and the Noosa National Park walk, Hastings Street is your gal.

Things around here can be a little more expensive, but the location is unbeatable for that full Noosa experience.

    Sofitel Noosa Pacific

If you’re feeling fancy (or celebrating something special), the Sofitel is where it’s at. Right in the heart of Hastings Street, just across from Main Beach, the location is spot on.

The rooms are modern and stylish, there’s a swim-up bar (yes, really), and the hotel has all the resort perks: beach access, a day spa, and loads of dining options. The bar out front also does a great happy hour and, in our opinion, one of the best around.

Not the cheapest option, but worth it for a luxe treat.

    Noosa Beach House – Sofitel

    Halse Lodge

Located right at the top of Hastings Street, Halse Lodge is a hostel that ticks all the boxes. Cheaper rates, shared dorms and private suites and a hop, skip and jump to the beach and all that Hastings Street has to offer, you just can’t go wrong!

As well as being one of the top rated hostels in the area, it has a bar and restaurant with a huge beer garden, regular live music and an all round good vibe. The bar and restaurant are open to guests and non-guests and it’s a favourite amongst Noosa locals, too.

If you’re looking for something a little more budget friendly, in one of the most sought after locations on the Sunshine Coast, Halse Lodge is your go-to.

Other notable mentions around Hastings Street: Netanya

    Gympie Terrace

Gympie Terrace a slightly more low-key area, and certainly a little more local. Located along the Noosa River, it’s packed full of bars and restaurants, picnic benches and barbecue areas as well being home to one of Australia’s ‘Big Things’ – The Big Pelican!

Only a 7 minute bus journey or a short drive to the beach, it’s a great location to stay for a more relaxed vibe.

    Bounce Noosa

Although not technically on Gympie Terrace, just around the corner is th Bounce Hostel. Bounce is one of Noosa’s most popular places to stay for travellers under 35. If you’re over 35, you can still stay — you’ll just need to book a private room instead of a dorm.

But don’t let the word “hostel” fool you, this place feels more like the Love Island villa. With a full bar, DJs, shuttle buses to the beach and Hastings Street, morning run clubs, pool parties, discounted car hire, and nightlife tours, it’s ideal for anyone after a social, fun-filled stay.

The pool is lush, the team are great, and the whole place just has good energy.

    Bounce, Noosa

    Noosa Everglades

So, this is a little bit out of Noosa – around a 40 minute drive – and is great if you’re looking for a different experience. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of Noosa, and the area offers more of a nature-oriented stay!

    Kangarooms/Habitat Noosa

If you’re planning on staying near the Noosa Everglades, there’s a stand out here that we have to include in this list! Have you seen those videos on TikTok of the kangaroos jumping across the lake at sunrise? Yeah, that’s here.

They offer bookings for camping, camper vans and even glamping. They also have an on site bar and restaurant and yes, lots of resident kangaroos!

    Still Not Sure?

Honestly, there’s no wrong place to stay in Noosa — it just depends on what kind of trip you’re after. Want to be in the middle of it all, with beach access and cocktail bars on your doorstep? Hastings Street is calling. Prefer something quieter by the river, with space to chill and watch the sunset? Noosa Parade or Gympie Terrace might be more your style.

From boujee resorts to fun hostels (and everything in between), Noosa really does have something for everyone. We’ve stayed at a few different spots over the years and have loved them all for different reasons.

If you’ve got a favourite place to stay in Noosa — or you know a hidden gem we should check out next time — let us know! We’re always on the lookout for new places to add to the list.
